The pitch
Win the morning, win the day. Cold showers, journaling, meditation, all before sunrise.
What actually happened
I spent three months exhausted by 2pm. The routine assumed sleep was a choice and willpower was a resource I had in the morning. Neither was true. What the 5am people do not mention: most of them do not have a brain that treats bedtime as a negotiation it always wins.
What worked instead
- One anchor, not twelve. Mine is: meds and a glass of water before my phone.
- The routine starts when I wake up, whenever that is. The sequence matters, the clock does not.
- Anything that takes more than 10 minutes gets cut on bad days, guilt-free.
Verdict
Did not work. Sequencing works; scheduling does not.
